10 crayons set made from vegetables and rice wax. All natural ingredients.
The colours are named after the fruits and vegetables from which the pigments are derived. (Cabbage, green onion, long potato, burdock, corn, snow carrot, apple, cassis, purple yam and bamboo charcoal).
The colours of these crayons come from recycled plant materials. During harvesting, the outer leaves of the vegetables are typically discarded, but these crayons make use of this food waste by collecting it and converting it into dyes for the crayons.
The same pigments used as ingredients in the food are used to further enhance the colours. That means everything in these crayons is natural. We all know how kids tend to put things in their mouths, (I am a mom of 2 kids and yes, they have chewed all kinds of things!! by Meg) so these crayons offer a relatively worry-free option.
Mizuiro.Inc, Aomori, Japan was founded in 2014.
The founder Naoko Kimura originally worked as a graphic designer from her home while balancing work and child-rearing.
One day in the winter of 2011, as she was preparing dinner, she was reminded of the vivid colours of vegetables and thought, "It would be delicious to draw pictures with the colours of vegetables.
Later, when she learned that many vegetables are discarded due to substandard quality, Kimura began to think about how to reuse discarded vegetables produced in Aomori Prefecture. This is how the "Oyasai Crayon" was born. Now the crayons are made by experienced craftsman in a crayon factory in Aomori.
Simply a safer, more sustainable, and stress-free option for your child to play with.
Oyasai Crayons meet the JIS standard, which is an inspection that ensures a benchmark for crayon strength. They have earned the European standard toy safety EN71-3: 2013 certificate as a result of a strict safety inspection.
※The crayons are made with natural ingredients and food-grade products, however, these are not edible crayons.
