70cm (27.6″) square furoshiki designed with 2024 Zodiac, Dragon.

Dragon (Tatsu)

The dragon, an imaginary animal, has been depicted and passed down in various forms throughout the world.

When looking up at the sky, its image can be felt in the clouds. In Feng Shui, it is said to increase all luck and is gaining popularity.  2024 is the year of the Kinoe-tatsu(甲辰), they hope that many people's dreams will come true.

Kotobuki

The word “寿 Kotobuki" in cursive script is expressed in a long dragon body. The body is positioned so that it protrudes from the furoshiki to show the dynamic presence of the dragon. The simple silhouette depicts a dragon flying freely with its golden whiskers gently fluttering.

Katamigawari with auspicious motifs

Scale patterns, which are said to ward off evil spirits and protect the body, and cloisonne (Seven treasure) patterns, which symbolize happiness, harmony, and good fortune, are depicted in the background to wish for a bright year ahead.

Hemp has strong vitality and grows vigorously without the need for a lot of care, so this pattern was often used on babies’ and children’s kimonos with the hope that they would grow up big and strong.

By changing the way of wrapping and the position of the object, this furoshiki can look like a red furoshiki or a white furoshiki.

What's Furoshiki

Furoshiki is a square piece of cloth or fabric traditionally used to wrap and or to transport items for over a thousand years in Japan. The first furoshiki were used during the Nara period (AD 710 to 794). While the name has changed, the form has been handed down without much change. It is a traditional Japanese cultural item created by  the thoughtful wisdom of the Japanese people.

Furoshiki usage declined in the post-war period, in large part due  to the proliferation of paper and plastic bags available to shoppers. In recent years, however, it has seen a renewed  interest as environmental protection has become a greater concern.

Nowadays, Furoshiki is used in many different ways. You can wrap and tie each corner to suit the size and shape of the contents within. In this way, it is very useful to carry items. It also has become increasingly popular for gift wrapping.

It is light, compact, washable and reusable. It can be used in so many ways!!
We can’t wait to share all our ideas of how to use
them with you. Furoshiki will become a MUST have in your  sustainable living lifestyle.
