It's one of the representatives of Japanese mid-century design.

Every circle is meticulously hand-painted by artisans employing the "kaki-oshi" technique.

In the 1960s and 1970s, during Japan's rapid economic growth, numerous dishes adorned with this polka dots design emerged. These charming pieces were part of the nostalgic scenery of Japanese ryokan (Japanese inns), hotels, public facilities, and everyday dining tables.

Today, it has been subtly redesigned to align with modern life scene while maintaining its nostalgic charm and it won the Good Design Award, the top honor in Japanese industrial design.
