Japanese Incense "Choju Giga"
Kousaido has drawn upon traditional motifs handed down from ancient times, to create their Choju Giga ("Animal Caricatures") incense series.
Designated as a national treasure, the Choju Giga are a series of illustrated scrolls dating back to some time between the 12th-13th century. The scrolls depict anthropomorphic animals going about their lives in the late Heian and early Kamakura periods. Showing many illustration techniques that have come to be associated with modern Japanese comics, the Choju Giga are considered by many to be Japan's earliest manga.
