Himuka Binchotan is carefully crafted using a traditional charcoal-making method passed down through generations in Unama, Misato Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan.  Binchotan charcoal is regarded as the purest and most effective type of activated charcoal and is revered for its purifying ability.

Simply place the charcoal in a filter bag and leave it in your water to enjoy its natural benefits:

  • Helps absorb chlorine odors and impurities, leaving water with a cleaner, smoother taste.

  • Naturally releases minerals such as calcium and magnesium into the water.

  • Gentle enough to use for your pets’ drinking water and even watering your plants.

Harnessing the natural properties of 100% natural charcoal, with no chemical treatments or synthetic additives, it helps improve the taste of your drinking water, bringing a smoother, gentler taste to your family’s everyday life. A simple, natural choice for those who value mindful, health-conscious living.

How to Use

  1. Before use, gently rinse the binchotan charcoal under running water using a colander. Do not use any soap or detergent.

  2. Place approximately 60g (one bag) of charcoal into the included filter bag.

  3. Add water and let it sit for approximately 12 hours (overnight).

  4. The next morning, your water is ready to enjoy with a naturally smoother, milder taste!

Recommended Usage Period & Care

  • Recommended usage period: Approximately 3 months with daily use.

  • After use, rinse the charcoal under running water and allow it to dry thoroughly in direct sunlight.

Once its water-purifying life is complete, the charcoal can be repurposed for other household uses, such as deodorizing, moisture control, and improving soil quality. This way, you can continue to make the most of nature’s benefits while minimizing waste.

Hinuka no Tomoshibi

Hyuga Binchotan is a traditional Japanese charcoal made in the mountainous region of northern Miyazaki Prefecture using a method passed down since the Edo period. It is recognized as one of Japan’s three finest types of Binchotan.

Made from Arakashi (Japanese evergreen oak), which has a higher moisture content than the oak used in other regions, it requires a special slow-drying process called kansō-daki. This crucial stage takes over 30 days inside the kiln and is key to producing its exceptional quality.

This unique technique reflects generations of knowledge, ingenuity, and dedication by local charcoal makers who have proudly preserved the tradition.
