Discovered at a Japanese antique market, this enamel wash basin is a rare deadstock piece from Fukushima Enamel, a now closed manufacturer that once thrived during Japan’s period of rapid economic growth.
These basins were a staple household item in the Showa era, especially popular between the 1950s and 1970s, when enamelware became widely used in kitchens and bathrooms across Japan. Today, they are beloved again for their nostalgic charm and clean, functional beauty—particularly amid Japan’s retro boom.
This particular basin is in excellent, unused condition. It still bears the original “Shirokuma” (polar bear) logo sticker, a charming hallmark of the Fukushima Enamel brand.
