A unique antique plate featuring Hina dolls, traditionally displayed in Japan to celebrate Hinamatsuri (Girls' Day) on March 3rd. While the exact origin is unknown, this piece is believed to date back to the late Edo to early Meiji period.
While most modern Hina dolls are seated and displayed on multi-tiered platforms( typically in three, five, or seven layers), standing dolls like those depicted on this plate were more common before the mid-Edo period.
This rare plate beautifully captures a glimpse into the earlier traditions of Japan’s Hinamatsuri celebrations, making it a remarkable piece of cultural and historical value.
