Vintage Japanese Glass Sake Bottle with Bamboo and Plum Relief

This vintage glass tokkuri was made in Japan using a mold-blown glass technique. Based on its construction and finish, it is believed to date from the early to mid-20th century, around the Taisho to early Showa period.

Its rounded body features three oval panels. Two are decorated with raised bamboo and plum motifs, both traditional symbols of good fortune. Bamboo represents strength and resilience, while plum blossoms are associated with renewal and the arrival of spring.

The third oval panel is left plain and may once have held a label showing the name or emblem of the ryotei or restaurant where it was used.

The glass has the waviness, small bubbles, and subtle irregularities characteristic of older Japanese glassware, giving it a beautiful handmade texture.

Originally made for serving sake, it is also ideal as a small flower vase for a single flower, a few seasonal stems, or a small branch.
