Discovered in a vintage warehouse in Fukuoka, this dish features a beautiful chrysanthemum design with elegant gold trim.

The word “Nishiyama” is inscribed on the back, indicating it was made in Nishiyama, Hasami Town, Nagasaki Prefecture. Based on the design, it is estimated to have been crafted 20-30 years ago.

Namasu dish, which originated in the Edo period, is a slightly deep plate around 15cm in diameter, traditionally used for serving “Namasu” – finely chopped raw meat, fish, or vegetables mixed with vinegar. Its practical size and depth make it versatile for serving not only namasu but also various side dishes.
