Vintage Tomica No. 28 Toyota Crown Taxi | 2000 Black Box Reissue

This Tomica No. 28 recreates a classic Toyota Crown taxi in a cheerful yellow and red color combination. The small white roof sign, Japanese タクシー lettering on the doors, and TAXI printed across the trunk give it plenty of character from every angle.

The original Tomica Crown Taxi was released in 1971 and was the first taxi model ever introduced to the Tomica lineup. It was based on the third-generation Toyota Crown, a sedan first released in Japan in 1967.

This particular piece is not the original 1970s Japanese-made edition. It is an official black-box reissue made in China and released in 2000 to celebrate Tomica’s 30th anniversary. The model brings back the look of the early Crown Taxi together with its wonderfully retro black-and-yellow packaging.

What we especially like about this one is how ordinary and nostalgic it feels. Rather than a race car or a flashy sports model, it captures a familiar part of Japanese street life in miniature. The bright two-tone body, boxy Crown shape, white interior, and old-fashioned taxi sign make it a fun display piece, even for someone who does not usually collect toy cars.

The 1:65 scale model features opening front doors, rolling wheels, and suspension.
